WAVE3.com, Dec. 14, 2010 LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One local girl is providing relief to those suffering from the cold temperatures in Kentuckiana. Makenzie Smith started "Makenzie's Closet" after her second grade teacher talked with her class about being thankful for all that they had. The 11-year-old distributed thousands of coats at The Cathedral of the Assumption. Makenzie said she had help during the first year. "Family and friends kinda helped the first year but then as it kept going throughout the years the community helped out, businesses, schools and churches," said Smith. The organization collected 1,000 coats during the first year. This year the number of coats reached over 4,000. |
