Parents were allowed to pick out toys and clothes for their children. There were dolls, games, books, movies and sports equipment. Donations came from area parishes and companies. Organizers expected to serve about 1,000 children.
“We get the names from Boys and Girls clubs, Volunteers of America and various parishes here in Louisville, Jefferson County and southern Indiana,” said Jim Carrico, who organized the event.
Virginia Harris was shopping for her 1-year-old son. “A lot of parents are having a hard time affording Christmas presents for their children. So this is really a good blessing,” said Harris.
Food baskets were also handed out. This is the 17th year the St. Vincent DePaul Society has delivered holiday cheer.
