On All Saints Sunday, Nov. 1, members of one family made a loving memorial to a family member who had passed away earlier in the year. That’s when Pat and Trish Francis, owners of the Louisville landmark restaurant Pat’s Steak House, came to the Open Hand Kitchen to serve a meal that they themselves had provided.
The generous family picked up the tab for our executive chef’s trip to the restaurant supply store to purchase ingredients for a ver special meal of breaded pork chops, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, mixed vegetables, and dinner rolls. The meal served on Sunday at noon was augmented by fresh, tossed salad and desserts including cupcakes, cookies and hand-scooped ice cream.
Angela Renzi, 87, Remembered
The meal was offered in honor of Angela Renzi, Trish’s 87-year-old mother, who passed away on June 8, 2015. “She truly was a saint,” said Trish, as tears welled up in her eyes. She said her mother had been in hospice care with only days to live, but that somehow she survived to have several months more than that, which the family considered a blessing.
“We are so fortunate,” she said, adding that the family felt honored to be in a position to help others at the Open Hand Kitchen.
“You all do such good work on a daily basis,” Pat Francis said. “We’re glad that we can be here and do this.”
Family Patriarch Honored on Last March
It’s not the first time the Francis family has made such a gesture of generosity. They provided a meal in honor of Pat’s dad, the family patriarch and founder of Pat’s Steak House, last March. In addition, they have frequently purchased truckloads of food and restaurant supplies for our OHK, which recently set a new record of serving 17,000 meals to people in need.
On behalf of the men, women and kids who benefit from our donors’ compassion, we thank you all!
