LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Louisville elementary school campers want to make sure the survivors of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando know that people in Louisville are thinking of them and sending get-well wishes.
The students are participating in the JCPS Art and Literacy camp at St. Vincent de Paul’s Family Success Center.
They have handmade these get-well cards with messages like love, peace and faith.
“What I put on my card was, I put hope and faith. Hope and get well because I hope that they get well and that they won’t have to go through it no more. I am just very sad for them because it shouldn’t have happened,” Sally Carter said, who is in 4th grade.
“We just wanted to send them a message. That we just want them to feel better and we are sorry for what they had to go through,” one student said.
St Vincent de Paul Louisville Director of communications Linda Romine said they hope that making these cards teaches the children the importance of having compassion and respect for others.
“The lessons for the kids are the same that we are trying to teach here at St Vincent de Paul’s family success center. Which is to respect one another, to be accepting, be kind to one another, to solve disagreements by talking to one another and to just love and accept one another,” Romine said.
We’re told those cards are being addressed and were mailed Thursday afternoon. Organizers hope they bring some comfort to the victims at this difficult time.
