LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Boy Scouts and the U.S. Marine Corps League honored veterans and homeless veterans Saturday with a flag retirement and flag-raising ceremony.
The ceremony was held at St. Vincent de Paul’s Men’s Shelter on South Jackson, and stressed the importance of retiring used flags properly.
It was also part of the Memorial Flags Program which raises awareness and funds to help support homeless veterans.
“Veteran homelessness has been a pretty critical issue for the last few years following all the war efforts in the middle east and we wanted to recognize those veterans and frankly keep awareness of the need for serving those veterans,” Ed Wnorowski, executive director, St. Vincent de Paul, said.
This was the first flag retirement ceremony held at the men’s shelter.
