2020 was a year for many firsts and a new normal here at SVDP. For one of our clients, Doug, 2020 was the year he experienced homelessness for the first time. Doug came to Ozanam Inn Men’s Shelter in August 2020. He was evicted from his apartment after falling behind on rent due to illness and slow work during the pandemic shutdown. At St. Vincent de Paul Louisville, he received help and support from program staff, Olivia and Pam, meals and safe housing and a rapid rehousing voucher. Doug moved into his own apartment in December and continued to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to get back to working full-time.
Our clients face homelessness, hunger, addiction and lack of opportunity. You make sure they receive a nourishing meal or a warm bed, but also the companionship and kindness all people deserve. You help them overcome every day hardships and give them a path that transforms their lives into one of fulfillment and self-sufficiency.
Easter is a time of reflection and spring anew. Let us all find comfort in the resurrection.
