Conference Corner is a new feature in The Good Samaritan where we’ll highlight the life-changing work performed by the Conferences of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Council of Louisville.
If your Conference has news to share, please contact Donna Young, Director of Conference Affairs and Volunteer Services, at (502) 301-8688 or dyoung@svdplou.org
Exit Kits
When men staying at Ozanam Inn Men’s Shelter or the young people at Waypoint House move on to their own apartment, they usually have nothing more than what they had while staying with us. The St. Vincent de Paul Conferences have been putting together exit kits to provide to clients as they move on.
Most of us don’t give a second thought to items like forks and knives, dish soap, and can openers, but if you don’t have the basics they are desperately missed.
The Epiphany, St. Raphael the Archangel, St. Dominic, and St. Edward Conferences dropped off several exit kits in April. We are so grateful to them and to the other conferences that have committed to creating these kits.
Food Donations to the Open Hand Kitchen
In March 2020 when the shutdown occurred and donations were disrupted, the Conference at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel began making bi-monthly donations to the Open Hand Kitchen, and have continued to do so after a year into the pandemic. Working with Angela Leavell, Program Manager at the Open Hand Kitchen, the Conference tries to fill in any gaps there might be so that OHK can continue to provide daily, nutritious meals to anyone that asks.
Thank you to all the Conferences for their continued support of the mission at St. Vincent de Paul Louisville. We couldn’t do it without you.
