Spirituality, fellowship and service to the poor are stepping stones in the Vincentian journey to holiness, Young told the large crowd in attendance on Sunday. As St. Vincent de Paul believed, volunteers (known as “Vincentians”) look for the “face of Jesus” in the poor–and strive to reflect the “face of Jesus” back to them with a kind and loving attitude.
During their induction, the new Vincentians vowed to seek to grow in their personal holiness by serving the poor of God with their fellow Vincentians; to be open to the differences in cultural and socioeconomic situations; and to strive to be non-judgmental when working with clients.
