The newly opened SVDP Drop-In Center, in partnership with Louisville Metro Government, is a safe space to help adults (male and female) navigate barriers to obtaining housing and employment. We are providing a welcoming space where guests can come as they are, without appointments or barriers. Guests have access to computers and free internet, cell phone charging stations, reading materials, light snacks and refreshments, lunch at our Open Hand Kitchen, and social interaction. Q&A SVDP DROP-IN CENTER
Is this a day shelter?
No, this is not a day shelter. The SVDP Drop-In Center is not providing any supportive services. Unlike most of our housing programs, the SVDP Drop-In Center is not offering showers, laundry facilities, case management, mental health counseling, job training, or assistance with finding permanent housing. We are offering essential services to those who need a safe place to stay or digital access during the day. This program is not requiring individuals to be unhoused.
What are location and hours of operation at the SVDP Drop-In Center?
Address: 1029 S. Preston Street (the Family Success Center)
Hours: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday (no weekends).We will be closed for lunch from 12 to 12:30 p.m.
What is the closest bus stop to the SVDP Drop-In Center?

Who is eligible to come to the SVDP Drop-In Center?
The SVDP Drop-In Center accepts up to 15 male or female adults (18 years or older) on a first come, first served basis. You do not need to make an appointment nor be unhoused to utilize this program. Please note the SVDP Drop-In Center is not be open to children (infant to 17 years old).
What is the check-in process?
Guests will be given access to the SVDP Drop-In Center by the Operations Coordinator. He or she will ask guests to check in on a sign-in sheet and fill in a check box of what they will access during the day (computers, networking, reading space, resources, etc.).
What about inclement weather or emergency situations?During inclement weather or emergency situations, we will do our best to remain open. However, in the case of needing to close, we will post here, notify RAVE alerts (which sends messages to a mobile phone or email), and share on our Facebook page.

For Those Fleeing Domestic Violence
We also help securely house those who are homeless due to fleeing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or other dangerous or life-threatening conditions such as human trafficking. Our program is for women or men, including their children, who need housing and services that meets their immediate need for safety and helps them exit to stable housing in the community. Call Coordinated Shelter Access office at (502) 637-BEDS (2337) and ask them about our domestic violence shelter or housing opportunities. -
For Those Applying to General Housing
If you need general housing assistance, please call the Family Health Centers Phoenix at (502) 637-2080, Mon-Fri, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to complete a Common Assessment.
For Those Applying to an Apartment
We have two apartment complexes to which prospective tenants can apply directly: Veterans Housing at Waypoint and Tranquil House.
Veterans Housing at Waypoint
Male and female Veterans can apply to live in a private room on our Shelby Park campus. We have 24 single room occupancy units for Veterans who are homeless, at immediate risk of homelessness, or currently living in a transitional housing setting. Waypoint is at 1041 S. Preston Street in the Shelby Park neighborhood. You will enjoy living on our campus with plenty of peaceful green space.
We are currently taking applications and will accept housing vouchers or other forms of rental assistance. To determine eligibility, you will need to have the following:
- Veterans Housing Application
- Proof of Homelessness
- Background Check
- A copy of your Social Security Card, DD214, and ID Card.
Please send these completed items to our offices at 1015-C S. Preston St., Louisville, KY 40203 (Attn: Associate Director of Crisis Housing). We maintain a waiting list for eligible applicants and you will be contacted when an open unit is available.
*Income restricted; tenant income must not exceed 60% Area Median Income; we accept Housing Vouchers.

Tranquil House
Tranquil House is a Section 8 permanent housing complex with 12 single bedroom units. To be eligible to apply for residency in these apartments, prospective tenants should have a chronic mental illness. St. Vincent de Paul offers case management to tenants, and tenants are able to use the resources and assistance available on our campus. If you are interested in living in Tranquil House, complete the application below and submit it with a copy of your Social Security Card and photo ID to our offices at 1015-C S. Preston St., Louisville, KY 40203 (Attn: Associate Director of Permanent Housing). We maintain a waiting list for eligible applicants and you will be contacted when an open unit is available.

We have two ways we help with food security:
- The Open Hand Kitchen serves free lunch and dinner at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. every day of the year to anyone who walks through its doors. The address is 1026 South Jackson Street.
- The Food Pantry is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You can receive fresh produce, frozen meats, poultry, fish, and pantry staples. If you are not a client who lives on our campus, you need to live in the 40203 zip code. Upon arrival, you must show a picture ID and a piece of mail showing proof of current address, such as a water or LG&E bill. The address is 415 East St. Catherine Street.
- If you live outside the 40203 zip code, please visit https://daretocare.org/need-food/ or call 2-1-1 for a pantry location in your zip code.
- The Open Hand Kitchen serves free lunch and dinner at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. every day of the year to anyone who walks through its doors. The address is 1026 South Jackson Street.

Here are the supportive services we offer:
- Case Management and the Mental Health Substance Use Program are supportive services only for clients in our on- and off-campus housing programs.

Though we don’t help with financial assistance or other emergency requests on-campus, such as rent, utility bills, food, or clothing, we have 27 SVDP parish-based conferences (volunteer groups) that can respond to urgent matters. See the information below and contact the conference in your specific zip code.

The donated vehicles below have been priced for sale. The price is for the full amount, cash or cashier’s check only. The buyer must obtain insurance and transfer the vehicle to their name before SVDP releases the keys.
There are none for sale at this time. We update this regularly.
